Resolved Question: Living in Las Vegas, how safe, how expensive?

I'm planning to either move to Tucson, AZ or Las Vegas, NV during the summer. I'm interested in knowing how much I will be paying to rent out a room (or an apartment), and how safe LV is. 1. I'm a 24 year old male. 2. I will be making minimum wage (about $850 - $1000/month). 3. I want something relatively safe. Based on what I can afford, which safe areas should I consider looking in? How much will it cost me? Am I better of renting out a room or an apartment? I was told my LV locals that North LV should be avoided. One girl told me that she moved the day after a drive-by shooting happened. Too many minorities, she says. Which isn't a problem for me. it's gangs that worry me.
